Our brief - to create a music video which follows the conventions of pop videos in general , via camera angles, the vast number of elaborate shots and the singer's interaction with the camera.
Questions - What are the conventions of pop videos? What artist should we look to? Which song of the artists should we use? And in terms of equipment we have in school, what can we use to create those tracking, high angled and low angled shots?..
These are the immediate problems we faced, our solution was to do a lot of research which would give us some sort of insight on how to tackle our issues.
Firstly, we mapped out all of the female artists we like and one of their songs, this is what we came up with.
By analyzing all of the research we gathered, we managed to pick Paloma Faith's Smoke and Mirrors. We drew links from the facts that the conventions of music videos we to use black and white to highlight the theme of the song. As we listened to Smoke and Mirrors we noticed the theme of separation and being in the spotlight as there are lines within the song that say "The show is over The audience is walking out the door". With this in mind we thought of numerous places we could film which would reinforce the theme of separation.
Secondly, we managed to locate a website which has helped us hugely in the initial phase of this project. This link helped us a lot on what the conventions of pop videos were...
